Loose Cannon and Untamed Crowned Eagle: the two slots that Golden Riviera launched in March 2014
This article was written in 2014 and we keep it as a record of how the online casinos of that time presented their games and promotions. The operators, offers and figures it mentions may no longer exist or may have changed, and nothing on this page is a current offer. 18+.
This article was first published in March 2014, when Golden Riviera Casino, a house of the Vegas Partner Lounge group that no longer operates under that name, announced two new video slots by Microgaming for Wednesday, 5 March 2014. Loose Cannon and Untamed Crowned Eagle joined a catalogue that the casino counted at "more than 650 games", and the release is kept in the past tense, as a record of how a casino of that time presented the monthly delivery of its software house.
The copy of the text on this page carried the name of Platinum Play, to which the images were made to link when Golden Riviera stopped operating under its name, while the address of the page kept the original, which we restore here (the $2,500 hour of free play below was Golden Riviera's offer for years). The two games reached every casino of the Microgaming network on the same day, so that the record reads the same under either name.

What the casino announced
Two games, the release said, meant "double the fun", and both promised "gripping entertainment and big wins" to every player of the house. The casino's manager, presented as its "brand ambassador" and left unnamed, called the day of the new releases his favourite of the month (every month, presumably) and praised Microgaming for "such inventive titles", in the tone of a man who had never been disappointed by a delivery.
The cadence is the interesting part of the record. Microgaming delivered its new slots to the casinos of its network on a fixed day (the releases kept in this archive fall on the first Wednesday of the month, from this one to the Max Damage of November), and every casino of that network announced the same games on the same morning, each as if they were its own.
Loose Cannon
Loose Cannon was a pirate slot with five reels and 243 "ways to win" (the system in which matching symbols on adjacent reels pay without fixed lines). Its feature was an "expanding wild cannon" able to turn all fifteen positions of the grid wild, that is to fill the whole screen with the symbol that stands in for the others, while compass "scatters" (symbols paying wherever they land) opened up to fifteen free spins.
Untamed Crowned Eagle
Untamed Crowned Eagle was the fourth title of the Untamed series, after the tiger, the wolf pack and the panda, on the same five reels and 243 ways. Its "soaring wild" carried a multiplier of up to ten, and the "collect-a-wild" feature turned an entire reel wild for four spins once enough wilds had landed on it; the release called the result "gaming soaring to new heights", which was its job.
The welcome offer of March 2014
New players were offered a total of $500 over their first three deposits (figures that the casino also quoted in euro and pounds): 100 per cent up to $150, 25 per cent up to $200 and 50 per cent up to $150. The alternative was a "freeplay" offer, $2,500 in casino credits to play with during the first sixty minutes, keeping "a portion" of the winnings afterwards.
A player who wanted the whole $500 had to deposit $150, then $800 (a quarter of which is $200) and then $300 (half of which is $150), that is $1,250 of his or her own money for $500 of credits. The "wagering" (the volume of bets required before a withdrawal) came on top, unmentioned, and the release never said which portion of the free play winnings you kept!
The figures are also a measure of how fast those offers moved, because by November of the same year the package of the same casino had grown to $1,400 over three deposits, as its Max Damage release shows, so that a player who compared the two texts saw one house selling two different things under the name of "welcome".
Banking and support, as the release told them
The cashier was described in the usual terms, web wallets, credit cards and direct bank transfers in several currencies, with the "128-bit encryption" of every release of that period; the multilingual support was reachable "at any time of day or night" (by live chat, toll-free number and e-mail). None of it was checked then or now.
What became of it
Golden Riviera belonged to the group known as Vegas Partner Lounge, with Crazy Vegas, Maple Casino and Casino-Mate, none of which operates under its name today, and it is not among the operators we work with. Neither of the two offers above exists any longer, so that the figures are testimony and not an invitation.
The images on this page link to Platinum Play, a casino of the same software and of another group, which is still among those we present (the link is an affiliate link, as the box above says). The offers described here were not its own; its current terms are in our Platinum Play review, written after trying it in demo mode.
Microgaming's games passed to Games Global between 2021 and 2022 (our article on Microgaming becoming Apricot tells the story), and we have not checked whether the two slots survive.
If you want to compare the offers of now, our world list is the page, and the slot hub gathers the games we have played in demo. The news archive keeps the other releases of 2014 and 2015 beside this one, where you can read how the casinos of that time spoke to their players.
